Hattat Ibrahim
Terms & Conditions
Last updated: September 2026
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of this website and the provision of all tuition, courses, homeschool cohorts, workshops, demonstrations, events, commissions and artwork sales by Hattat Ibrahim ("the Academy", "we", "us"). Please read them carefully. By submitting a booking, paying a fee or placing an order, you agree to be bound by these Terms. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
1. Definitions
- "Client" or "you" means the person, parent, guardian or organisation booking or purchasing from the Academy.
- "Student" means the person receiving tuition, who may be the Client or a person on whose behalf the Client books.
- "Services" means lessons, courses, cohorts, workshops, demonstrations, events and any related instruction.
- "Works" means original calligraphy artworks, commissions and any other goods supplied by the Academy.
2. Enquiries and bookings
Submitting an enquiry or joining a waitlist does not create a contract or guarantee a place. A booking is confirmed only when we have confirmed it to you in writing (including by email or WhatsApp) and any required fee or deposit has been received.
You must provide accurate information when booking, including any medical, access or learning needs relevant to the Student's safe participation.
3. Fees and payment
Fees are as stated at the time of booking. Term fees are payable in advance of the first session of the term unless otherwise agreed in writing. Private lessons are payable in advance, individually or as a block. Event and demonstration fees, including any travel costs, will be set out in a written quotation.
Where payment is not received by the due date, we may suspend the Services until payment is made.
4. Cancellations and changes
Cancellations, rescheduling and refunds are governed by our Bookings & Cancellations Policy, which forms part of these Terms. The Academy reserves the right to change a teaching venue, time or format (for example moving a session online) where reasonably necessary, and will give as much notice as possible.
5. Nature of classical tuition
Classical calligraphy is taught through the traditional meshk method of model, practice and correction. Progress depends on the Student's own practice and application. We do not guarantee any particular result, level or timeframe, and progression between stages (including towards an ijazah) is at the sole discretion of Hattat Ibrahim Jum'ah.
6. Student conduct
Students are expected to behave respectfully towards the teacher, other students and host venues, and to follow reasonable instructions, including in relation to the safe use of tools, inks and materials. We may remove a Student from a session, without refund, where their conduct is disruptive, unsafe or inappropriate.
7. Children and young learners
Students under 18 must be booked by a parent, guardian or responsible organisation, who remains responsible for the child outside the teaching session and for collection at the agreed time. Our Safeguarding Policy applies to all Services involving children and vulnerable adults.
8. Online lessons
For live online sessions, you are responsible for providing a suitable device, internet connection and materials. Sessions may not be recorded without the prior written consent of the Academy and all participants.
9. Commissions and artwork
Each Work is original and handmade, so minor variations in ink, paper and composition are a natural feature and not a defect. Commissions begin once the design brief is agreed in writing and any deposit is paid. Because commissions are made to your personal specification, the statutory 14-day cancellation right does not apply once work has begun (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, reg. 28).
Risk in a Work passes to you on delivery; ownership passes once payment has been received in full. For non-commissioned Works bought at a distance, you may cancel within 14 days of delivery and must return the Work undamaged at your cost.
10. Intellectual property
All calligraphy, images, text, teaching materials and exemplars on this website or provided in tuition are the intellectual property of Hattat Ibrahim Jum'ah and Hattat Ibrahim. They may be used for personal study only and must not be copied, reproduced, sold or distributed without our written permission. Purchase of a Work does not transfer copyright or reproduction rights unless expressly agreed in writing.
11. Photography and media
We may photograph adult students' work for our portfolio and social media with their consent. We will never publish images of identifiable children without explicit written consent from a parent or guardian.
12. Liability
We will provide the Services with reasonable care and skill. Our total liability to you in connection with any booking or purchase is limited to the price paid for it. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
13. Events beyond our control
We are not responsible for delays or failure to perform caused by events outside our reasonable control, including illness, severe weather, venue closure or travel disruption. In such cases we will offer an alternative date or a refund for the affected Service.
14. Website use
You may use this website for lawful purposes only. We aim to keep the information on it accurate but do not guarantee that it is complete or up to date.
15. Complaints
If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of our Services, please contact us so we can try to resolve the matter promptly and fairly.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You and we agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales; if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
